Father’s Day
Since I previously discussed
sustainable Mother’s Day gift ideas, I felt I had to discuss Father’s Day as
well. The iconic Father’s Day gift, the
tie, has little place in our Southwestern Montana
lifestyle. For the Dad in our house, his
list of Father’s Day stand-bys include cheap watch (so no worries if it gets
scratched or destroyed while he’s working), a wallet, and pocket knife. My husband loves tinkering with knives and I
have had lots of success getting him knife making kits. Crazy Crow Trading Post, www.crazycrow.com, is a great source for
affordable, DIY knife kits.
So I pop onto Pinterest.com ‘cause
I’m crafting crazy and I am always looking for great project ideas that are
kid-friendly. I wade through all the
tie-themed crafts and see cute ideas for handprint art—hand prints as leaves of
tree, “World’s Best Dad Hands Down” and “Fill Your Shoes”/ “Walking in Your
Shoes” variations. Candy and soda “Pop”
gifts are also popular.
With my father in mind (who
can be very hard to shop for, as vintage Pontiac
paraphernalia can be costly), I had been thinking about collecting some of his
favorite treats- like caffeine-free soda.
Pinterest.com suggestions include: a goodie box for dad with
personalized labels, bait box for Dad (treats for Dad, not night crawlers), and
homemade Father’s Day trophy. The
Father’s Day cupcake variations out there are insane: golf theme, cupcakes that are mini BBQs with
tiny candy meats, and cupcakes that look exactly like hamburgers with cookie
fries.
My husband (with very little
nudging) used Amazon.com to make a wish list of tools for this Father’s
Day. I’ll take the list to Murdoch’s and
Ace Hardware to find the best deal. I’m grateful
to know exactly what he wants; it takes the pressure off to be able to pick
something that he’ll like.
Spend quality time with Dad
this Father’s Day weekend. Fishing is a
popular Father’s Day activity and we have kid fishing ponds at either end of
the Ruby Valley.
The Father’s Day Fly-In at the Twin Bridges
Airport is a great
activity for the whole family.
