Sustainably Christmas

Sustainably Sadie
Sustainable Christmas

Or, how I kept busy while waiting for baby to arrive.  At time of writing this, Monday the 3rd, Baby Miller has not yet joined us.  It is hard to not be anxious, but it is an excellent life lesson, to trust the body and to accept the days that pass before the natural process begins.

I have 90% of my Christmas shopping done…I think.  I was determined to get it all tackled before you-know-who arrives.  I’m not keen on taking baby out into the shopping madness and mayhem.  I’ve accumulated the crafting accoutrements necessary to create many fun DIY (Do-It-Yourself) gifts and holiday decorations.  Thanks to Pinterest.com, it has been too easy to get inspired to try different decorations, different ways to dress up candles, and construct unique jewelry organizers.  I will write about these projects in more detail later.

Check out Pinterest for your business.  I’ve noticed magazines are dedicating page space for Pin-crazy readers.  Real Simple magazine, realsimple.com/pinterest, suggests you “get inspired” by checking out “What’s Hot on Pinterest.”  Bon Appetit magazine shares the magazine’s Pin It to Win It contest, pinterest.com/bonappetitmag/contests.  Check out businesses similar to your own to get inspired to create your own Pinterest page.  Pinterest is also now doing a “30 Days of Pinspiration” promotion, featuring people, businesses, and blogs:  “For 30 days, pinners, non-profits, and brands share what inspiration means to them.”  Research ways to make this social media website work for you.

While accumulating DIY holiday ideas, I am also still collecting your suggestions for shopping locally this season.  Together we can create 2012’s Ruby Valley Gift Guide.  A great suggestion sent my way was to shop Etsy.com…it is an easy way to shop online and shop local.  When you visit Etsy.com, click on the “Buy” button (top left) then on the right-hand side of the page under “Ways to Shop” click on the “Shop Local” link.   Consider listing your products on Etsy.com…if you do, you may need to contact Customer Support to make sure that your store is listed in their Shop Local database.  It would be worth the few minutes of phone time to make sure that your products result when “Twin Bridges, Montana” (or Sheridan, Alder, Silver Star) is typed into the Shop Local query.

There are so many wonderful ways to celebrate the season:  favorite recipes, favorite homemade gifts, creative crafts and supporting your friends and neighbors.  Do your business a favor and spend a few minutes researching ways to boost holiday profits.  And remember to share your ideas at www.sustainablysadie.blogspot.com or email sustainablysadie@hotmail.com.
